Program CD Help

The Program CD is a critical piece of the Kid Connection material because it contains all of the reproducible pages that are used during the small group time for lessons each quarter. It also contains the music for the quarter.

To access the reproducible pages
Usually when you put a disk in the CD drive of your computer a window will pop up with options for how to use the disk. When that happens, follow these steps:
  • One of the options you’ll see is Open folder to view files. Double click on that option and you'll discover two files on the disk.
  • One says Reproducibles.pdf and the other is copyright information, which you can ignore. Double Click on the Reproducibles.pdf and the reproducible pages will pop up for you to scroll through and print off as needed.
At this point, in some cases, your computer may prompt you to download Adobe Acrobat. This is the program that is used to open PDF files. If that happens simply click through the downloading process so that Adobe is installed into your computer. This is free, and should only take a moment. When it is finished, you'll be able to click on the PDF reproducibles and they will appear.

An alternative option for accessing the reproducible pages
On some computers (or on some occasions) when you put a CD in the disk drive, nothing will happen. If you don't see a window pop up that gives you options for using the disk, don't panic!

The first thing you can do is take the disk back out of the computer and put it in again. Sometimes it simply fails to read the disk. Putting it in again may trigger the reading.

If that doesn't work, follow these steps:
  • Using your mouse, right click on the Start button at the bottom of your screen.
  • When options appear, select Explore by double clicking on it.
  • A window will appear that has a list of folders on the left side. Scroll down the list until you find a file that says either Kid Connection or Reproducibles (the title will be one or the other, depending on your computer).
  • Two options will appear on the right side of the screen. One will say Reproducibles. The other is copyright information, which you can ignore.
  • Double Click on Reproducibles.pdf and the reproducible pages will pop up for you to scroll through and print off as needed.

Saving the reproducible pages to your computer’s hard-drive
When you have the reproducible pages open on your screen, follow these steps:
  • Locate the File button in the upper left corner of the window.
  • Left click on the File button to reveal a selection of options.
  • Scroll down to the Save a copy option and left click on that.
  • A window will appear that contains a paragraph telling you the document does not allow you to save changes made to the document. Click the Okay button to continue.
  • A window will appear allowing you to save the reproducible pages asReproducibles.pdf under My Documents. Click on the Save button to continue.
  • The reproducible pages have now been saved on your computer within the My Documents folder. You no longer need your program CD in the computer to open these pages.

Creating a shortcut to your reproducible pages for easy access
If the reproducible pages are still open, close the window by clicking the X in the upper right hand corner.
  • Using your mouse, right click on the Start button at the bottom of your screen.
  • When options appear, select Explore by double clicking on it.
  • A window will appear that has a list of folders on the left side. Scroll up to the top of the list and double click on the one that says My Documents.
  • In the next window that appears, look on the right side. You'll see many files, find the one that says Reproducibles.pdf. Right click on that to reveal options.
  • Move your arrow to the option that says, Send To, more options should appear.
  • Move your arrow over to the option that says, Desktop (create shortcut).
  • Left click on Desktop (create shortcut).
  • A shortcut has now been sent to your desktop. This means that when you close down all your windows (by clicking X in the corner) you should find an icon on your screen that looks like a PDF page and says Shortcut to Reproducibles.pdf. Whenever you log on to your computer that symbol will be there. To open your reproducible pages simply double click on that icon and they will appear on your screen.
